From the edge of the forest where I stood
I could see the field and the shadows darkness took
Past the meadow, by the brook, there was a man
Bloody with a hole shot through each hand
He was letting rusty life strip from his head
Tending to the linen from his bed
Looked like a man, I remembered, I'd forgot
Said he, "might be inclined to have a talk"
Said "no matter how much blood his eyes had saw
He'd never let a drop spill of his flock"
and he screamed, "oh lord"
and spoke soft back to me
said, "son, forget all you've been taught.... hell I did, it's been the best thing I forgot... go on forget I was here."
